How
We Work
Our Mission
|
| Mobilize the caring power of Detroit and Southeastern Michigan
to improve communities and individual lives in measurable and lasting ways. |
 |
| Our Vision |
| United Way for Southeastern Michigan will be a unique leader in convening partners
to generate systemic and sustainable improvements in our communities.
We will be recognized as a trusted steward of our communities’ investments
and resources, and accountable for planned outcomes. |
 |
| We Believe |
| United Way believes that to truly improve lives in our region we must act collectively to impact the critical issues affecting residents of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. We are committed to bringing together partners across all sectors in order to address community concerns before they become problems. In so doing, we create sustainable community change. |
You probably know United Way best for our role in supporting
a large network of local nonprofit agencies. We have
a proud history of providing a convenient way for employees
to give back and to help metropolitan Detroiters in
need. However, the problems facing our communities today
demand a more strategic approach to charity and donors
are demanding more accountability for their contributions.
Our strategy:
- Pinpoints specific populations at most risk;
- Builds strategies that focus on root causes of problems,
not just symptoms;
- Brings together agencies, government and foundations
to collaborate on solutions so that we maximize, not
duplicate efforts;
- Tracks progress and reports results back to donors.
Why United Way?
We believe that no one agency working alone can achieve
as much as we can by working together. Because of our
long history in metropolitan Detroit, we can engage
civic leaders in problem solving and turn to corporations
and foundations for expertise, resources and volunteers.
No other organization in metropolitan Detroit is better
positioned to lead systemic change.
