Tours provide connection to our work
Tours provide connection to our workExperience United Way's work first-hand with an Impact Tour. Each one is limited to 15 people and includes a guided bus tour that allows you to see community issues at the neighborhood level. You'll also hear presentations by staff or volunteers about the work United Way is doing to combat these issues and change community conditions over the long term.

As the United Way campaign contact for your organization, the tours are an excellent way to get more information about United Way to use in your campaigns. It could also be used as an opportunity to engage some of your employees who donate and are interested in seeing the return on their investment.

We have two coming up that will highlight our work in Education and Financial Stability. Please consider attending and pass the information along to your employees. To RSVP for the Impact Tours, please contact Rebekah Gilroy at rebekah.gilroy@LiveUnitedSEM.org or 313-226-9231.

New York Life is increasing its involvement with United Way. In addition to a $4,000 corporate gift to the organization, the company has pledged to run a workplace campaign for the first time in Southeast Michigan.

“We are proud that the New York Life Foundation supports our community through United Way,” said Thomas Bello, managing partner, New York Life’s Greater Detroit General Office. “New York Life has a longstanding commitment to humanity. The Foundation builds on this tradition by providing grants to worthwhile organizations like United Way, which help improve the quality of life in Detroit and other cities nationwide where New York Life agents and employees live and work.”

New York Life chose to increase its support of United Way after identifying with our mission of making lasting improvements in the lives of individuals and families across Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. We thank New York Life for their commitment to our mission and we're excited to see the results of their campaign efforts.
Live United in action at the marathon
Live United in action at the marathonMore than 30 people showed the community how they Live United by participating in the Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Marathon on October 19.

United Way fielded a team in the marathon’s 5K event, and the group served as a testament to the power of unity and team work. In addition, runners participated in the half marathon, full marathon, and marathon relay, all with Live United emblazoned across their chests.

It was a sight to see, all of those people coming together for United Way.

But the true expression of the Live United message was what our team did after the 5K ended. Many stayed behind to participate in United Way’s spirit stations along the marathon course. There, they lifted their voices and opened their arms to other runners, providing positive support as they raced toward the finish line.

To Live United is to reach out a hand to others, and in doing so, to change the condition of all. That could mean helping a child learn to read or helping a family with basic necessities like food and shelter. But it can also be as simple as supporting a friend, neighbor, or even a complete stranger as they embark on a personal goal.

No matter how we choose to make a difference in the lives of those around us, we are all part of the Live United movement. The marathon is just one example of the thousands of ways you can Live United. Learn about other ways by logging on to our Web site, www.LiveUnitedSEM.org.
